About EasyTrack car track days
Firstly, we add dates all the time, so be sure to subscribe to the car track day newsletter when you register and be the first to know. Standard membership is free of charge and you may also want to consider one of our membership packs which come with a host of extras and, unlike others, don’t time out at the end of the year.
So what about the trackdays, how are they run and who are we?
Well, we’ve been around for quite a while now, indeed while we operated on a club basis in the 90′s we incorporated in 1997 and are the longest established track day organiser operating in the UK and Europe (maybe the world!).
Some members of our team have been involved organising, competing and marshaling motorsport events since the mid 1970′s. One of our instructors can even quote time spent with Fangio!
Not that we’re all over the hill as the youngest member of the team is just 20 years of age. So a good balanced mix. Our first “official trackday” was back in 1994. A very rare track day at Philip Island in Australia, though strictly an opportunity taken from one presented out of the blue, the idea was sow that it really should be as easy to get out on track as it was then. Back in the UK we began hiring venues in 1997 and issued open invitation to all driving enthusiasts. Before that point the only way to get on circuit was if you stumbled upon some “club” which involved handing over thousands of pounds for a limited few events over the next 12 months.
We made it a bit easier than that! Turning to the internet in 1998 we started to pick up a lot of interest and were even featured on BBC2 TopGear.
A long time has passed since then and some of the original team are no longer with us. The founder, Marcus retired in 2004 to Europe and can be found helping out on our European RaceRay events, also playing host to our annual trip to the Monaco F1 GP.
Sadly, Graham “Watto” Watson who was the top man passed away in early 2005 far far too early, but his wife Shelley is still the MD and a regular friendly face at drivers sign-on and making sure they are ok through their track day.
We like to think that every event since Watto would have approved of and his never too serious attutude remains today.
After a relatively quiet period (we only do as many events as we want to attend, so you know we’re always happy to be there and happy to see you) following, we’ve picked things up again in 2008 onwards and even restarted motorbike trackdays. We took a pause of almost 7 years for these bike days but it became apparent we’d not lost our touch. Our first 15 bike days of the new era went by without a single red or black flag!
Not unusual with our car trackdays but in the bike track day world this was apparently greeted with astonishment! Good work of the current team!
So, enough of the history, in summary you’re in safe hands and welcome at our track days. How do we run them? Well best thing is to come along and see but here is a few highlights:
- All those displayed are trackdays that you can book are CONFIRMED events. Ones you can’t are 85% likely but may move a day or two due to fluctuations in race diaries.
- Most of our car trackdays are open-pitlane events and we guarantee no overbooking, just fun and friendly relaxed uncrowded paddocks.
- All events are staffed by qualified and licenced instructors who have years of trackday and racing experience. Thanks to the fact we have one of the, if not the, best record in the business for red/black flags and accidents, their primary job is to help ensure you have a great day rather than enforce strict rules and remove people. That said, those rules need to be followed by everyone and there is no fooling our instructors, they can and will end peoples trackdays early if any driver is not following the event rules.
- We are the only organiser in the UK to offer optional noise test cover. If you fail the noise test, you can get a credit.
- Sociable days where everyone in welcome. We’re proud of our relaxed, easygoing “club” atmosphere and tone. It leads to better driving and less stoppages!
- A selection of different track cars available for hire.
- Events run if full accordance with industry health and safety rules with 10 million GBP of Public Liability Insurance in place. We’ve also got insurance in place to allow datalogging with passive timing for driver training and improvement purposes. This means we’re a great place to demo loggers and video overlay equipment before you choose. Oh, yes…we sell them too!
- Our track days that run in groups also generally have less cars than other organisers, meaning there is less likely to be stoppages and more likely to be an excellent, memorable car track day. For instance, at a circuit like Goodwood where planning restrictions mean a very low limit of cars allowed on track we only book a maximum of 3 groups per hour, never 4.
- Satisfaction guaranteed. If we get it wrong on a day, you’ll get a free one!
- Weather guarantee. Now we know that we defined the trackday industry but can’t believe some of the followers STILL don’t give a refund/credit if weather stops a day. Insist on it!
