Not all track days are the same format and it’s also important to consider that, during any event, it may become necessary for EasyTrack to change the format in operation e.g. dramatic change in weather. It’s rare this happens but it can.

The vast majority of our car track days are run on an open-pitlane basis, which is most suitable to most circuits. That said, whichever format is in force you can be assured it’s the right one for the event and aimed at optimising track time, space and value for you – the drivers.

OPEN PITLANE:

EasyTrack pioneered the open-pitlane format back in 1992 after negotiation with public liability insurance underwriters. It’s our (and our imitators) preferred option for most circuits. You will be free to go out on circuit when you like. Total numbers are typically lower (double the number allowed on circuit at any one time under normal conditions) so the space out on track means a mix of speeds is not an issue, this means that EasyTrack open-pitlane events are suitable for novice and experienced track day enthusiasts alike, though novices are requested to book instruction. Free flowing and relaxed is the aim on an open-pitlane event. You’re assured with EasyTrack that this does not mean long line ups waiting to get onto circuit and, importantly, a sensible on-circuit limit meaning no over crowding. Sometimes conditions beyond our control (yes, we’re talking those noise limits again!) may mean the format is resticted in some way, but you’ll always get access to the minumum 20 minutes per hour track driving…and few drivers/cars can cope with much more!

SEMI-OPEN:

Another EasyTrack original. A mid-way point between open-pitlane and sessioned events. In use at circuits where planning restrictions limit the “average total” noise at the track day. Goodwood, Croft, Castle Combe and sometimes at Bedford. The system has the benefit of increasing tracktime and flexibility over sessioned events but is not quite as free flowing as Open pitlane with the chequered flag in use to limit the amount of time a car stays on track in each run. Expect at least the amount of tracktime as with a 3 group sessioned events but more likely the same as you will do on open-pitlane. EasyTrack limit to the equivalent or less of 3 groups on these types of events not 4 or 5 as with other organisers. 4 group level of numbers = approx 12 minutes or less on track per hour!!! Avoid!

SESSIONED:

Cars are grouped into 1 of 3 groups by experience and take it in turns to go out onto circuit with that same group, in fixed time slots through the day. At certain circuits this works best, though the on-circuit limit need to be watched. We never fill the groups as drivers may need to move group (one persons advanced driver is another persons novice), and instructors need access to the circuit at all times. EasyTrack limit to the equivalent or less of 3 groups on these types of events not 4 or 5 as with other organisers.
4 group level of numbers = approx 12 minutes or less on track per hour!!! Avoid them, you’re being ripped off!
